Founding QA Lead

About Us:

We’re a fast-moving startup building a consumer-grade mobile (iOS/Android) and web platform. We are helping families put food on the table by rethinking how we do our grocery shopping. We obsess over quality, speed, and reliability—and we’re hiring a QA Lead to be part of our founding team and build QA from zero to one.

Role Overview:

Own the end-to-end QA program across mobile apps, Next.js/Node.js APIs, and AI-assisted data pipelines. You’ll own the quality culture, mixing hands-on testing with process and tooling, so every release is stable, performant, and delightful for customers.

Responsibilities:

• Own the QA strategy for iOS/Android, web, APIs, and data pipeline test plans, risk-based coverage, and release gates.

• Execute manual & automated testing (functional, regression, exploratory, load/performance).

• Define QA gates: work closely with the DevOps team to integrate QA automated processes into CI; monitor regressions; fast feedback loops

• API quality: contract tests, schema validation (OpenAPI/Swagger), negative/edge cases, chaos testing.

• Analytics & crash QA: ensure events, funnels, and crash reporting are accurate across platforms.

• Continuously improve: QA OKRs/KPIs (escape rate, flake rate, MTTR, coverage).

Requirements:

• 5+ years in QA/Software Testing; 2+ years leading QA initiatives or teams.
  Proven experience testing consumer-facing mobile apps (iOS & Android) and webfront-ends (eg. Appium, BrowserStack, Espresso, XCTest)

• Strong API testing background for Node.js services (Postman/Newman, Supertest; contract testing).

• Hands-on test automation (Appium/Detox/Playwright/Cypress/Puppeteer).

• Solid performance/load testing (k6, JMeter, Gatling, or Locust) and metrics with Datadog/Grafana.

• Comfortable owning QA in a startup: fast cycles, pragmatic risk management, crisp documentation.

• Excellent collaboration with Product, Design, and Engineering.

• Bonus: grocery/retail/e-commerce or other high-traffic consumer apps.

Strong Pluses:

• AI-assisted testing: self-healing selectors, visual AI diffing, autonomous test generation/prioritization

• CI/CD automation for tests (Azure DevOps Pipelines/GitHub Actions/CircleCI) and quality gates.

• Security, accessibility, and feature-flag/experimentation QA.

• ML/Data QA familiarity 

Ideal First 90 Days: 

• 30 days: QA strategy approved; top 10 critical journeys mapped; smoke suite running.

• 60 days: Automation in CI for critical paths (web + mobile); API regression suite; baseline load tests in CI.

• 90 days: Release gating with thresholds; perf budgets enforced; AI-assisted testingbake-off (2–3 tools) with one pilot integrated; show 30–50% reduction in test authoring time on pilot scope
